Bouncing Forward When the Ground’s Moving Below

Bouncing Forward When the Ground’s Moving Below

This month has been a masterclass in resilience.

Last week, I was staring at a perfect storm on my calendar: a major project pivot with a new, aggressive deadline landed at the same time I got some strange, unsettling news from a close friend.

By Wednesday, I was feeling completely wiped out.

My first instinct was to just “push through,” to put my head down, drink more coffee, and grind it out. But that old playbook no longer works.

No, I needed the strength that allows you to recharge and reset in real time. That feeds energy so you can stay in the game.

So I’m writing this. Partly to process it for myself, and partly in the hope it might help you too.

A Different Kind of Wealth
You’re not really born with resilience; it’s like sports or working out, it takes practice and dedication. It requires an emotional investment. So this week, I invested in:

1. The Investment in Self-Compassion.
The idea of being “on” 100% of the time is a myth. For me, that meant doing a hard audit of my schedule and admitting I couldn’t do it all. I rescheduled non-critical meetings and blocked out time for a walk each day to clear my head. This helped conserve energy to stay focused and present.

2. The Investment in Radical Focus.
When everything feels chaotic, anchor to what you can hold. I can’t control the project changes or my friend’s situation, but I can control my reaction and choose my next steps. I made the decision, rolled with the punches, and over-communicated the new plan. This shifted my energy from worry into action.

3. The Investment in Connection.
I made a quick call to a mentor, and talking it out gave me the boost I needed and a better perspective. Connections are a two-way street. I asked “What about you?” and he was so grateful. It turned my moment of need into a moment of mutual support.

Good Vibes Exchange

I believe each time you call on your network, or lean on someone for help, you make a tiny “withdrawal.” To keep the account healthy, make regular “deposits” in return. Think of it as a good vibes exchange.

These small shifts help fortify your foundation. Right now, I’m getting tons of practice in bouncing back well. And honestly? It’s starting to feel less like a bounce back and more like a leap forward. And that alone is a bright side, no matter how faint.

What’s something you do to find your footing when things get slippery?
